Please welcome this absolutely magnificent and substantial antique Georgian era "Batibetto" necklace!

Made of solid 14k yellow gold and dating back to the late 1700's / early 1800's (late Georgian or early Victorian era), this beautiful necklace comes from the South of Italy. A typical example of Sicilian hand work, this necklace boasts a state-of-art filigree work.

Lace-like hand made gold ornament looks extremely delicate and ethereal.

The bow is adorned with sparkling foiled garnets and natural sea water pearls. The pearls are drilled and wired to the body of the necklace using a thin gold wire (typical of Sicilian traditional jewels).

Batibetto is a name of the antique corsage or choker ornaments which included a symbol of cross. Representing ones faith, the name comes from two words combined - bati & betto (translating from Italian - knock on a chest).

A classic example of assymetric Rococo style of the 18th century, this amazing necklace is a real museum-worthy treasure! I hope it finds its new home soon!
